This is when I met Dave and Laura. They seemed nice, but Chai, their dog, I loved right away! I was so sad when I had to go back to Ukraine. Can you imagine my surprise when about a month later I was asked if I'd like to be part of Dave and Laura's family? I immediately said, "YES!" We got to spend the following summer together and I've been waiting for them to come for me for the last 9 months. Their adoption dossier was finally submitted in Ukraine the end of April and they just learned June 5th that their appointment with Ukraine's State Department of Adoptions is scheduled for June 24th! I sure hope they can complete the adoption this summer. I just graduated from the school at my orphanage and I'll only be allowed to stay one more month. I'll spend the rest of the summer at one of the orphan camps, but then I'm on my own and I face frightening statistics.  Will you please help Dave and Laura bring me home?

It wasn't until I was 15 that I had my first opportunity to experience life as part of a loving family and visit America. My awesome host parents were not looking to adopt, but they advocated for me.  I was given another opportunity to be hosted over the following Christmas break. Things were going great, but the younger siblings didn't know how to play rough like I'm used to and got scared of me. With only 12 days left in the hosting period and a winter storm approaching, I was driven on this dark southern night for 4 hours to meet a new couple to take care of me for those last few days. In exactly 2 months I'd turn 16 and become unadoptable in the U.S.
